New aircraft arrival

Jet Provost XN629 arrived at the museum on Sunday 14th February, the aircraft has been purchased by Bentwaters Aviation Society member Allan Dewhurst, and is on loan to the museum.

The aircraft has been lifted straight into the newly fenced museum outside display area, and as such is the first aircraft to go on display at the museum.

Bentwaters Cold War Museum achieves MLA Accreditation

November 20th 2009 saw the Bentwaters Cold War museum achieve the Museum, Libraries, Archives Council (MLA) accredited museum status. The aim of the MLA accreditation scheme is to ensure that museums aspire to and achieve the very best in management of the museum and its collections.

The MLA aims to raise standards for all museums by highlighting best practice, and supporting improvement.

Museum expansion plans for 2010

Plans are underway for the next phase of the museum expansion, which is hoped will take place in time for the museum reopening for the 2010 season.

The first stage of work will see the grass area around the museum fenced in, to allow for display of current and future museum aircraft and other large exhibits outside the museum building.

The next stage will see a portacabin building put in place, which will become the entrance to the museum, and allow for a large area for use as the museum shop, this building will also allow room for a small cafe facility which will enable us to serve hot & cold drinks and a small selection of snacks.

If all goes well this will be ready for Easter 2010 when the museum opens after our winter closure.

Open day events 2010

Following the overwhelming success of the open day / airshow event in 2009, some changes are being made for 2010, due to the layout of the site, we experienced a few issues that need to be addressed.

So for 2010 there will be 2 distinct events.

Sunday 13th June 2010, will be a dedicated air show, the museum will not be open, and bus tours not running on this day, this event is being organised and run by Bentwaters Parks LTD, so for further information please contact them, you can find contact details via there web site at www.bentwatersparks.com

Sunday 1st August 2010, will see a special museum open day, which will feature the museum open as normal, airfield bus tours in operation, trade stands, military vehicles, potentially some static aircraft displays, and more.

Full details of our event on the 1st August will appear on our web site when further details have been confirmed.
